Name:Regulus Black

SLYTHERIN
{ wear }

AU older version (Post-Hogwarts, aged around 20ish up to the events of the books) of [personal profile] not_srs where Regulus didn't die in the Cave and became a spy for the Order.

Basics:
Name: Regulus Arcturus Black
Birthday: October 9, 1961
Family: Walburga Black (Mother), Orion Black (Father, deceased), Sirius Black (Older brother)
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Patronus: Lion (Though he's never conjured a strong enough Patronus to see it's form)
Wand:11'1/2" Cypress, Dragon Heartstring

Sexuality: Bisexual but prefers men.

Verses:
Spy: First Wizarding War. The Death Eaters wasn't what Regulus thought they were... The Dark Lord Voldemort wasn't what he thought he was. They didn't share Regulus's ideals about the Magical World, didn't think it should be protected and cherished. They wanted to rule it and if it meant undermining and destroying it to do so, that was what they would do.
And Voldemort... he was the monster he had been warned about and worse.
Regulus hadn't wanted to survive that cave but he did and now he has a chance to do even more damage to the group he had once believed in. He doesn't know how long he can keep passing information to the Order (or how many lives he can save) before he's caught and executed as a traitor but, really, he's living on borrowed time anyway.
Regulus was discovered as a spy in mid-October of 1981 – just a few weeks before the Potters were killed. A group of Death Eaters tortured him – mostly with Cruciatus Curse but a few used more 'muggle' methods and Fenrir was given free reign to 'play' with him (take that as you want) – and when they were through, one of them (Bellatrix) carved the word 'Traitor' over the Dark Mark on Regulus's arm.
((Note:If I mentioned your character here doing something and you disagree, feel free to ignore it and we'll have it was someone else. I don't want to step on any toes!))
Regulus was rescued before he could be executed but was severely injured. By the time he recovered enough to speak, the Potters had been murdered and Sirius imprisoned for being the Spy in the Order (and the Spy that very likely outed Reg to Voldemort).
Regulus didn't do much to out most of the other Death Eaters, claiming the masks were more or less mandatory so unless something was slipped, it was hard to find out people's identities. The only exceptions to these were for those who tortured him and Lucius Malfoy. The torturers that were caught were sent to Azkaban – Lucius Malfoy's claims of being under the Imperius Curse was more readily accepted and he was cleared of the charge. Regulus might not have liked Lucius but he wasn't going to leave Narcissa without her husband or let Draco grow up without a father. As far as he was concerned, he betrayed the Death Eaters, not his family.

Teacher:
Jaded didn't even begin to describe how Regulus felt after working at the Ministry. After his mother Walburga died in 1985, Regulus left Kreacher in charge of Grimmauld Place, quit his job, and left the Wizarding World.
Regulus hadn't known what to expect, living in the Muggle World, but the largeness of it all was a relief. No one knew who he was, no one expected anything from him – he was just another face in a crowd of faces.
He learned how to live as a muggle, only using magic when absolutely necessary but then his curiosity led him to look into muggle science – or rather the only science that was also studied by Wizards.
Muggle Astronomy was vastly different than Magical.
Wizard Astronomy dealt the names of stars and planets and moons and what magical significance their positions meant – what spells would work best when and why... but Muggle Astronomy was something else entirely. They knew the names of things as well and they too studied their positions but they also studied why they were in those positions, what those stars and planets and moons were made of. They studied what the universe was, how it came about, where it was going, how it could possibly end.
He eventually wrote an article about Muggle Astronomy and what Wizards could learn from it – but the Quibbler was the only one interested in publishing it. It was not very well received, especially not by former Death Eaters who had not forgotten Regulus's betrayal.
In 1988, Regulus was offered the job of Astronomy Professor at Hogwarts – both because of his excellent knowledge of the subject but also for his own protection.
He's still teaching by the time the books start.

As a teacher, Regulus strives to be as fair as possible. He tries not to judge based on Houses though he can't help the twinge of anger when his own House is insulted. He also tends to be harder on Slytherin students but only because he doesn't want them to make the same mistakes he did. He doesn't want them to have everything handed to them and he doesn't want them to be dull and lazy – he wants them to do Slytherin proud by holding up the Slytherin ideals of being cunning and resourceful, of being ambitious – not being spoiled little brats.

TRIGGER WARNING: CHARACTER IS PRONE TO SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS.

Disclaimer: I don't own Regulus Black, nor am I James McAvoy. This is just for fun. Mun and Muse are over 18. If I mention a character you play in this profile has done something your portrayal of said character wouldn't, just let me know and it'll be retconned.
